The Audi S8.

Consistently efficient.

Vorsprung durch Technik is the claim to which the Audi brand is committed. An approach that includes repeatedly reviewing how every drop of fuel can best be used. For many years, Audi has been translating this claim into tangible reality on all its models – and as a developer of numerous innovations is having a lasting influence on efficiency standards in:

Audi Space Frame (ASF®) body design

The aluminium in the Audi Space Frame (ASF) is lightweight, offers greater freedom of design for cast parts and extruded sections than steel and the components made from it are noted for their high rigidity. The ASF design permits sporty handling with reduced consumption.

TFSI® engine

The Audi TFSI engines with direct fuel injection and turbocharging stand out for their remarkable efficiency, whilst delivering enhanced performance and the same impressive dynamism. The 4.0 V8 TFSI engine features the innovative Audi cylinder on demand. It ensures that during partial load operation, only four of the eight cylinders are used – without you noticing the difference. The engine runs just as smoothly and powerfully, but it uses less fuel and emits less CO2.

Start-stop system

The start-stop system helps to reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by switching off the engine when standing, e.g. at traffic lights. The start process is initiated as soon as the foot brake is released for a perfect getaway. Can be deactivated at any time via a button.

Recuperation

The recuperation system regains energy during the braking and coasting phases thanks to an intelligent voltage control system for the alternator. This energy is stored in the battery and supplied to the vehicle electric system during the next acceleration process, thus taking the strain off the alternator.

Fuel consumption and emission figures:
Fuel consumption, combined: 9.6 l/100 km
CO2 emissions, combined: 225 g/km
