The dynamic cornering light identifies the course of the road from the movement of the steering wheel. The headlights swivel – depending on the steering angle – towards the curve and in this way variably illuminate the course of the curve. The adaptive light is operational between speeds of approx. 10 km/h and 110 km/h.

Separate daytime running lights

The separate daytime running lights are integrated in the main headlights. They are automatically activated when the engine is started, and are automatically dimmed when the dipped beam headlights or the indicators are switched on. On the Audi Q5 the daytime running lights can be switched on and off via the MMI®. In addition, they can also be used dimmed as auxiliary and parking lighting.

Xenon plus

The Xenon plus headlight system generates particularly bright main and dipped beams and increases the range, breadth and uniformity of the illumination of the road surface when it is dark or under poor weather conditions.

 

Gas discharge headlights (xenon plus headlights) contain the noble gas xenon and generate a beam with approximately twice the luminous flux (lumen) of halogen headlights. The near-daylight white light generated by xenon headlights results from the fact that the spectrum of gas discharge bulbs is much closer to daylight than the light generated by conventional halogen bulbs. Service life is also longer than a halogen H1, H7 or H4 bulb. As the power control is separated from the vehicle's electrical system, a constant light output is achieved.

The high-gloss package underlines the high-quality appearance of the vehicle. It can also be used to achieve an effective contrast to the selected exterior colour of the vehicle. Grey-coloured glass is used for the darker tinted glass from the B-pillar rearward. Toughened single-layer safety glass (TSG) with approx. 27% light transmission, will be used for the Q5.

Side and rear windows in heat-insulating glass

The basis of the heat-insulating glass is laminated safety glass, whereby the panes of glass are bound together with a sheet of laminate. If the glass breaks, the splinters remain stuck to the film. The film dampens the sound waves, thereby reducing the transmission of outside noise into the passenger compartment. UV radiation is almost completely absorbed. Using tinted film combines the advantages of acoustic comfort, safety and shading.

The parking system plus with reversing camera employs a rear-view camera to display an image on the central radio or MMI display. This image is equalised with sophisticated correction systems and offers customers a very realistic image with a wide field of vision. This is supported with the display of additional steering lines which follow the current angle of the steering wheel and provide the driver with additional information when parking. adaptive cruise control

automatic distance control (control range 30–200km/h); working within system limits, it helps to detect vehicles ahead and maintain the distance by braking and accelerating, 4 programs can be selected individually via the steering column stalk of the cruise control; includes Audi braking guard which observes the surroundings and then warns the driver of any imminent collision with a vehicle travelling in front.

Cruise control

The cruise control system maintains any desired speed above 30 km/h as long as this is permitted by the engine‘s power output and braking effect. Cruise control is automatically deactivated if the driver applies the brakes or presses the clutch. The set speed remains stored and can be activated again at any time.

ISOFIX is a cross-manufacturer standard for child seat mountings. With the ISOFIX system, child safety seats (some specially approved by Audi) are attached to the vehicle via fixed anchorages. In just a few quick and easy steps, the child safety seat is pushed into the anchorages in the vehicle until the integrated locks engage. The ISOFIX anchorages can be found on the outer rear seats and optionally on the front passenger seat.

Tyre pressure monitoring display

Like the 1st generation tyre pressure monitoring display (RKA), an indirect measuring system, the 2nd generation tyre pressure monitoring display (RKA+) uses the signals from the ABS/ESC wheel speed sensors to determine any differences in rotational speed between the individual wheels and from these differences is able to detect if there has been any loss in pressure. These same signals are also used to evaluate the resonant frequencies of the individual wheels and from this evaluation,
the system is able to detect any potential loss of pressure. Unlike the direct-measuring RDK tyre pressure monitoring system, the tyre pressures are not explicitly measured and nor are pressures displayed in the vehicle. The position of the tyre affected is displayed so that the customer knows which tyre to check.
