Headlights

adaptive light

The dynamic cornering light identifies the course of the road from the movement of the steering wheel. The headlights swivel – depending on the steering angle – towards the curve and in this way variably illuminate the course of the curve. The adaptive light is operational between speeds of approx. 10 km/h and 110 km/h. Also included is the turning light, which automatically switches on when the indicator has been engaged for a while and illuminates the new direction in which the vehicle is driving; including headlight cleaning system

High-beam assistant

Working within system limits, it automatically detects the headlights of oncoming traffic, the rear lights of other road users and built-up areas. Depending on the traffic situation, the high beam is automatically switched on or off. The system thereby improves the driver’s visibility and ensures a more relaxed drive thanks to the extra comfort and convenience. Light / rain sensor

The automatic headlight activation automatically controls the headlights depending on the light conditions. The light sensor measures the lighting conditions and controls the coming home/leaving home function. The path to or from the vehicle is illuminated when the driver leaves the vehicle or unlocks it via the remote control. The rain sensor automatically adjusts the wiper interval according to how heavily the rain is falling. Light-emitting diodes inside the sensor emit invisible infrared light which reflects through the outer surface of the windscreen and is then measured by photodiodes. The measurements take place continuously.

Separate daytime running lights

The separate daytime running lights are integrated in the main headlights. They are automatically activated when the engine is started, and are automatically dimmed when the dipped beam headlights or the indicators are switched on. On the Audi A5 the daytime running lights can be switched on and off via the MMI®. In addition, they can also be used dimmed as auxiliary and parking lighting.

Xenon plus including headlight cleaning system

Automatic distance control (control range 30–200 km/h); working within system limits, it uses a radar sensor to detect vehicles ahead and maintain this distance by automatic braking and accelerating; 4 distance levels and different driving modes can be selected individually; including Audi pre sense front: braking guard warns the driver through an enhanced brake assist of any imminent threat of collision with the vehicle in front; extended by the function of maximum deceleration. This is initiated at speeds below 30 km/h if there is a danger of collision with a stationary or moving vehicle in order to avoid this collision if possible.

Anti-theft alarm with tow-away protection

The anti-theft alarm (ATA) is made up of the following four components:

Exterior monitoring: doors, luggage compartment and engine compartment are secured against unauthorised use.

Interior monitoring: the passenger compartment is monitored via ultrasound. The system can also detect people trying to enter the vehicle by smashing a window. It is possible to deactivate interior monitoring via a separate button, for example in order to leave pets inside the vehicle for short periods of time. Subsequent locking periods are not affected by this.

Anti-tow-away function: an inclination sensor detects minute changes in the position of the vehicle (e.g. due to theft of vehicle by loading it onto a trailer or due to theft of the wheels) and sounds an alarm.

 

Back-up horn: a system which operates independently of the onboard electrical supply will still sound an alarm (signal horn – no indicators) if the battery is disconnected or short-circuited.

Electronic stabilisation program ESP

ESP with electronic limited slip differential improves traction and dynamics when cornering.

In particular, the start-stop system reveals its potential for efficiency in urban traffic. It cuts fuel consumption levels markedly here while also reducing strain on the driver. As soon as the vehicle is stationary and the driver has stepped on the brake, the system will turn off the engine. When the driver's foot is removed from the brake, the engine starts again.

The start-stop system is convenient, extremely quiet and quick: in the time taken for the driver to remove their foot from the brake, the engine has reached its idling speed again.

The start-stop system is automatically activated after every ignition. It can be turned off by pressing the "Off" button.

Changes vehicle characteristics e.g. by adapting power steering assistance, accelerator and gearshift characteristics; the system also influences other optional equipment; available modes: comfort, auto, dynamic and – in conjunction with an MMI navigation system – individual. All models also have the efficiency mode, which shifts the engine, transmission, optional adaptive cruise control and climate control in a consumption-improved basic setting.

Dynamic steering

When changing lanes, parking and cornering, this system improves comfort and handling by dynamically regulating steering according to the driving situation. In addition to adaptation of the steering effort (as with the electromechanical servotronic), the steering angle is also adapted (steering ratio). The system is also supported further by vehicle stabilisation through ESP. (Can only be ordered in conjunction with Audi drive select)

ISOFIX is a cross-manufacturer standard for child seat mountings. With the ISOFIX system, child safety seats (some specially approved by Audi) are attached to the vehicle via fixed anchorages. In just a few quick and easy steps, the child safety seat is pushed into the anchorages in the vehicle until the integrated locks engage. The ISOFIX anchorages can be found on the outer rear seats and optionally on the front passenger seat.

Tyre pressure monitoring display

Like the 1st generation tyre pressure monitoring display (RKA), an indirect measuring system, the 2nd generation tyre pressure monitoring display (RKA+) uses the signals from the ABS/ESC wheel speed sensors to determine any differences in rotational speed between the individual wheels and from these differences is able to detect if there has been any loss in pressure. These same signals are also used to evaluate the resonant frequencies of the individual wheels and from this evaluation,
the system is able to detect any potential loss of pressure. Unlike the direct-measuring RDK tyre pressure monitoring system, the tyre pressures are not explicitly measured and nor are pressures displayed in the vehicle. The position of the tyre affected is displayed so that the customer knows which tyre to check.
