Baikal Blue and Neodymium Gold in the Audi A6 Avant

With just one click in the Audi online configurator, you can customise the interior of the new Audi A6 Avant in fascinating detail. “We have carefully coordinated all the main elements of the interior of this Audi A6 Avant in an optional Audi exclusive design package, paying great attention to detail,” explains Annika Stößl, product specialist at Audi Sport GmbH.

Baikal Blue and Neodymium Gold, the dominant colours of the optional design package, create a modern, elegant atmosphere inside the new Audi A6 Avant. The combination of colours is reflected in the seats, centre armrest, door surfaces and stitching. From the steering wheel to the centre console trim to the floor mat – everything is colour-coordinated. The two colours also represent an entire portfolio that Audi exclusive has newly developed and is offering in the design package of the Audi A6 Avant, and beyond.

Three ways of customisation with Audi exclusive

With ideas and expertise, Audi exclusive offers customers three ways to implement their individual wishes into the design of their own vehicle. “Our carefully curated design and stitching packages are designed to offer our customers a simple yet special introduction to the world of Audi exclusive,” Stößl explains one of the three pillars of the offer. The free personalisation makes the exterior paintwork and interior of a chosen model highly customisable. The Audi exclusive studios in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm will also offer customers advice to help turn their vision into reality. In addition, they present limited small series on a regular basis, adding specific new features to Audi production models, such as matte finishes and a variety of colour combinations in the interior.

Audi exclusive emphasises the elegance of the Audi A6 Avant

“When putting together a design package, we always start by focusing on the character of the base model,” reveals Trevor Hill, whose responsibilities include the sales of Audi exclusive at Audi Sport GmbH. We address an SUV like the Audi Q7 differently than a fully electric sports car like the Audi RS e-tron GT*. Having spent time in countries like Japan and South Africa, he knows what is important to customers in Europe, Asia and North America, and draws on his experience during the creation of the design packages.

“Early on in the process we need to investigate which equipment lines of a series are generally in demand and thus offered in our markets, so we can define the basis on which our design packages are built,” he explains. Particularly the seats are of relevance here, which is also true for the Audi A6 Avant. “We are aware of the iconic appeal of the Audi A6. Our design package is intended to emphasise this.” Hence the extensive features and exceptional attention to detail in the design package, which is based on the high-quality sports seats plus. The colour scheme provides a striking contrast to the interiors that can be configured in the Audi A6 Avant, but at the same time it offers plenty of freedom to combine the look with a wide range of exterior paint finishes.

“With the new deep, dominant blue and the subtle golden shimmer in the warm grey of the seat centre panels and contrasting stitching, we’ve created a truly modern and timeless look,” Trevor Hill points out.

Creativity and expertise go hand in hand

In addition to the experience gained, the decisions regarding the colour schemes, for example, are also based on current trend research. This is all the more true for the new colours in the Audi exclusive portfolio. “With our Audi exclusive content, we always try to look a little into the future, thereby actively setting trends and ultimately surprising customers time and again,” Annika Stößl states.

“There is a lively exchange with a wide range of specialist departments during the development phase,” Stößl describes the process, during which portfolios may evolve or change. For example, more colourful contrasting stitching had been planned at first for the design package of the Audi A6 Avant. “But in the end, we all decided on the much calmer Baikal Blue and Neodymium Gold. And to be honest, I am absolutely thrilled with the result! The design package is coherent in itself and, in my opinion, it underlines the sporty, elegant character of the new Audi A6 Avant perfectly.” Even if aesthetics are most important for the end result, Annika Stößl knows that there are many internal requirements to be met – beyond the visible design. “It’s not just the colours that we have to decide on. The materials used must also meet our highest standards of touch and feel, and quality. Dyes and yarns behave differently on a leather surface than they do on microfibre. A doormat is subject to different stresses than a decorative inlay,” Stößl explains the challenge.

Textile variant on offer and ideas for the future

Materials truly are of the essence: “With the new Audi A6 Avant, we are offering a textile alternative to the leather seat with the same level of detail,” says Hill. There is an ever-increasing demand for it at international level. The new colour Neodymium Gold is also used in this variant, but in combination with a lighter grey, while the contrasting stitching is in Diamond Silver. The fabric is partly made from recycled fibres. Audi exclusive also offers a configurable matching inlay with parts made from recycled plastic structures. “Audi exclusive offers a very high degree of customisation options,” Annika Stößl sums up.
And the experts at Audi exclusive don’t seem to be short of ideas. In a few months, Audi is celebrating 30 years of Audi exclusive. Annika Stößl and Trevor Hill are not giving everything away yet, but they are planning one or two surprises for customers looking for a very special Audi interior, whether in the Audi A6 Avant or another model of their choice.
